The Golden State Warriors are entering a summer full of real questions. Coaching uncertainty, roster balance, and the closing years of a dynasty core are all on the table. At the center of everything, as always, is Stephen Curry, the player who still drives the franchise’s identity on and off the floor.
Head coach Steve Kerr made that clear after the Warriors’ season-ending loss, praising Curry’s impact and admitting he has no desire to coach elsewhere. But while Kerr’s loyalty to Steph sounds locked in, the next chapter of his own future remains less certain. That’s where the latest report adds another layer.
According to The Athletic, Kerr’s habit of speaking openly about political and social issues has at times created internal frustration within the organization. His candid public stance reportedly has not always landed smoothly behind the scenes. Meanwhile, Kerr remains undecided on returning for a 13th season and is expected to speak with ownership soon.
“Well, I either thank him or I tell people how thankful I am,” Kerr told The Athletic. “I just told (USC men’s basketball coach) Eric Musselman, ‘There’s no way I would have been here 12 years if Steph Curry wasn’t here. The organizational stability we have really comes from him. There’s very few people who can have that kind of an impact on an organization, a league, a city, a region. He does all that and more, so yeah, I’m thankful for him every day.
I don’t want to walk away from Steph…I’m definitely not going and coaching somewhere else next year in the NBA.”

Kerr’s respect for Curry is unquestioned, but both his future and the Warriors’ direction suddenly feel wide open.
Kerr and the Golden State Warriors suddenly feel at a crossroads. After a Play-In loss to the Phoenix Suns, reports quickly suggested Kerr may not return next season with his contract now expired.
Kerr admitted he needs time before deciding what’s next. He said he still loves coaching, but also noted every job has an expiration date. He added further that he wouldn’t coach another NBA team because he doesn’t want to leave Stephen Curry.
If he exits, TV could be next. Reports say Kerr has met with media agents, while college coaching has also been floated. One era may be ending, but Steve Kerr’s next chapter looks wide open.
