It's time to stick a fork in the Suns. They're done.
On Sunday, Mike Budenholzer's team suffered an 18-point loss to the lowly Raptors, their fourth defeat to a sub-.500 team in 10 games. During this stretch, Phoenix also dropped two games to Portland and one to San Antonio, besides needing overtime to beat Utah. Since the start of the new year, the Suns are 12-13, ranking 21st in defensive rating and 18th in net rating while being outscored by 64 points.
The Suns can't use the injury excuse, either. Devin Booker has played 24 of the Suns' 25 games since the start of 2025. Kevin Durant (22) and starting PG Tyus Jones (24) have been healthy, too. Even the injury-prone Bradley Beal has missed only seven games thus far.
It's time to acknowledge that the Suns roster is not good enough, even against subpar opponents. Earlier in the season, Budenholzer's men handled their business against weaker teams. In early January, they beat the Hawks, Jazz, Hornets and Wizards to pick up four wins in five games. Fast forward to now, they're in a dogfight against tanking teams.
The scenes at the end of Sunday's loss told the story. The bench looked deflated. Durant was visibly upset in his walk back to the locker room.

It doesn't get easier. The Suns have the toughest strength of schedule the rest of the way, with their opponents owning an average record of .559.
Durant and Co. are due to face the Celtics, Grizzlies and Bucks twice, besides the Cavaliers, Nuggets and Knicks. They must also contend with the surging Warriors and Lakers. The Suns will be lucky to eke out a single win from all those games.
All signs point to the Suns blowing up the most expensive roster in NBA history over the summer. A drama-filled offseason awaits.
