Suns’ Dillon Brooks Faces Misdemeanor DUI Charge

Suns forward Dillon Brooks was charged on Monday by Scottsdale, Arizona prosecutors with driving under the influence, stemming from a March arrest, according to a TMZ report and ESPN’s Michael Rothstein.

Brooks is scheduled to be arraigned for the Class 1 misdemeanor charge on Oct. 28.

“We have addressed the matter with Dillon and have no further comment,” Suns senior vice president of communications Stacey Mitch said in a statement to ESPN.

According to TMZ’s original report, Brooks was pulled over on March 6 for traffic violations at about 1 a.m. in Scottsdale and charged about a half-hour later on suspicion of driving under the influence. Brooks was transported to Scottsdale City jail and was booked and released from custody around 3:30 a.m.

At the time, a source close to Brooks told ESPN that the arrest was marijuana-related. Brooks also has another case in the Scottsdale court system, according to Rothstein. A separate misdemeanor reckless driving and speeding case from January is moving closer to trial with the court setting a trial readiness conference for Nov. 9.

The NBA typically waits until court cases are resolved before taking any disciplinary actions against a player.

Brooks signed a three-year, $73MM extension with Phoenix in August. Last season, Brooks averaged 20.2 points on 17.1 shots per game, both career highs, and helped set a defensive mindset for a team looking to reestablish its culture.
