The Suns have reached a contract agreement with Jordan Goodwin, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania, who reports ( via Twitter) that the free agent guard will sign a three-year, $19MM deal.

Goodwin will receive a player option for the final season (2028/29), Charania adds. The Suns will use Goodwin’s Early Bird rights to re-sign him to a contract with a first-year salary featuring more guaranteed money than he had earned in his entire NBA career to this point, tweets Bobby Marks of ESPN.

When we previewed the Suns’ offseason, we estimated that Goodwin could receive a three-year, $18MM contract. Phoenix reportedly agreed to re-sign another free agent guard, Collin Gillespie, to fully guaranteed four-year, $48MM deal.

Assuming those two players received standard ascending contracts, which would benefit the Suns’ cap situation, Keith Smith of Spotrac projects the team to be $1.2MM over the luxury tax line in 2026/27 with two open standard roster spots and Mark Williams still a restricted free agent (Twitter link).

Smith previously reported that Phoenix made Williams a RFA by issuing the 24-year-old center a $9.6MM qualifying offer.

Goodwin was one of the pleasant surprises of the past season. The Suns claimed him off waivers last July after he was released by the Lakers, who wanted to clear a roster spot to sign Marcus Smart.

Goodwin had a career year in his second stint with the Suns, averaging 8.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals in 22.5 minutes per contest. The former undrafted free agent made 70 regular season appearances and shot 37.1% from three-point range while playing tough, physical defense.
