PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns have signed guard Jamaree Bouyea to a two-way contract, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Bouyea, 25, has spent time with multiple teams around the league, including the Miami Heat, Washington Wizards, San Antonio Spurs, Milwaukee Bucks and Portland Trail Blazers. The addition of Bouyea provides proven G League experience and veteran depth to their roster.

In his time in the G League this season, the new Suns guard has averaged 20 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. He provides an option for the team’s backcourt as several key players continue to deal with injuries.

Bouyea has the NBA and G League experience to be an important asset to the team, whether he’s needed on the court or continues to refine his skills with the Valley Suns.

This won’t be seen as a blockbuster signing, and many around the league may not pay much attention to it. But it does signal that the front office is committed to building more depth around its star core while other stars are sidelined. The two-way deal also allows the Suns to develop Bouyea while preserving financial flexibility.

Bouyea is the kind of player who could emerge as a dark horse for the team, either now or later in the season if his number is called.
