The Phoenix Suns are set to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road Wednesday night, but they could be without one of their star players.
Phoenix downgraded Kevin Durant to doubtful with a left ankle sprain for Wednesday's matchup against Oklahoma City. This comes at a very interesting time as Durant has seen his name enter trade rumors over the past few days ahead of the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline.
Of course, Durant would be making a return to Oklahoma City, where he played for eight seasons. The game was also flexed to be a nationally televised game on ESPN and was set to feature some of the biggest stars in the NBA, including both Durant and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Instead, it is likely that Durant will miss the matchup as he continues to deal with an ankle injury. This also comes during a time where he has where he has entered trade rumors, which could be a coincidence, but trade talks have begun to heat up surrounding the availability of Durant.
Despite this, the Suns have not been interested in trading away their superstar forward, but that could change ahead of the trade deadline. There have been many teams who have contacted Phoenix about Durant, including the Golden State Warriors who are looking to reunite Durant with Stephen Curry.
While the likelihood of Durant being traded is low, anything can happen in the NBA, which was seen on Saturday as the Dallas Mavericks sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis.
Either way, it is a tough blow for the Suns, especially as they get ready to take on the Thunder. Oklahoma City is the best team in the Western Conference, so with them possibly being without Durant, it makes the matchup even tougher for them.
Fans can catch Wednesday night’s matchup between the Suns and Thunder at 9:30 p.m. EST on ESPN.
