Suns Not Done in Buyout Market
Zachary BonDurant-USA TODAY Sports

The Phoenix Suns aren't done filling out their active roster.

The Suns filled one of the two open roster spots that were created in last week's trade for Royce O'Neale with the reported addition of Thaddeus Young on Tuesday morning.

Phoenix has one more open roster spot - and logic would say that there will be continued pursuit of another addition to round out a potential playoff roster.

AZCentral insider Duane Rankin reported the Suns have potential interest in 16-year NBA veteran Danilo Gallinari - who was recently bought out by the Detroit Pistons following half a season with the Washington Wizards.

Gallinari, 35, has been on this site's radar for some time now and would be one of the best players Phoenix can add on the open market - perhaps the best if Washington's Delon Wright remains with the Wizards.

While the Italian forward's best days are behind him (he hasn't averaged over 15 PPG since the 2019-20 season), he still brings a strong repertoire as a good stationary shooter along with a 6'10" frame - and a strong friendship with Suns superstar Devin Booker.

It's often an afterthought at this stage, but Gallinari was acquired by the Boston Celtics in the summer of 2022 under the idea that he was one of the final pieces to completing the Celtics' championship aspirations.

He unfortunately tore his ACL playing for Italy that summer and never suited up for Boston.

The Suns could certainly do much worse than a versatile 6'10" wing that shoots a career 38% from behind the arc and has strung together some quality performances for Detroit in just over 15 minutes a game after being acquired by the franchise.

Gallinari would be yet another player that helps the Suns across the margins and would help boost the fanbases' confidence in the overall depth of the roster ahead of the playoff push that features the most difficult remaining schedule in the NBA.
