Third-year center Oso Ighodaro confirmed to reporters on Friday that his representatives have been discussing a potential contract extension with the Suns, per Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic (Twitter video link).
“Yeah, we’re talking about it,” Ighodaro said at the time. “We’ll see what happens in the next couple days.”
When asked if he wanted to remain in Phoenix, Ighodaro didn’t hesitate. “For sure,” the Arizona native replied.
Ighodaro signed a four-year, minimum-salary contract with the Suns after he was selected 40th overall in the 2024 draft. The former Marquette standout will earn $2.3MM this season and Phoenix holds a $2.5MM option on his deal for 2027/28.
While Ighodaro will technically be extension-eligible throughout the current league year, which runs through June 30, 2027, Monday is the deadline for an extension to include his fourth-year option. The Suns would have to decline that option as part of an in-season agreement.
After playing both power forward and center as a rookie in 2024/25, Ighodaro was the Suns’ primary backup five last season, appearing in all 82 regular season games while averaging 6.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.7 blocks in 22.0 minutes per contest. The 24-year-old shot 65.3% from the field, but just 45.3% from the foul line.
As Rankin writes in a full story (subscriber link), Ighodaro has been competing with Khaman Maluach for a spot in the starting lineup after Mark Williams underwent surgery last month to address a torn labrum in his left shoulder, an injury that will sideline him for most of the season. Rankin hears if a deal comes to fruition for Ighodaro, it will “likely” be a three-year extension.
