The Phoenix Suns are sitting tight. According to NBA reporter Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic, Phoenix is comfortable with where the roster stands, though one more move is still required before the fall.
Thanks to the Kevin Durant trade and the Bradley Beal buyout, the Suns have dipped under the tax aprons. That gives them more flexibility. They can now aggregate salaries in a trade, explore sign-and-trade deals, and even use parts of the mid-level exception. But none of that means a big move is coming. In fact, it sounds like they’re leaning toward the opposite.
Rankin notes the Suns have some level of interest in Golden State Warriors restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga. The problem is they probably don’t have the draft picks or trade chips to make Golden State blink.
Veteran free agents like Russell Westbrook and Al Horford? Not in the Suns’ plans, per Rankin.
Phoenix still needs to add at least one more player to reach the league minimum of 14 on the standard roster. That move will likely be more about depth than splash.
Predicting the Suns’ Starting Five
So what does the lineup look like now? Rankin projects a starting five of Devin Booker, Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Ryan Dunn, and Mark Williams.
Off the bench, expect Collin Gillespie, Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neale, Oso Ighodaro, and lottery pick Khaman Maluach to handle most of the rotation minutes.
Beal’s New Deal Includes Trade Kicker
As you know, Beal is officially a member of the Los Angeles Clippers. He signed his two-year, $11 million contract on Friday after clearing waivers.
Per HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the deal includes a 15 percent trade kicker, which could come into play if the Clippers decide to flip him down the line.
