The beginning of Phoenix Suns training camp has already showcased the type of team the franchise will be for the 2025-2026 season. On Day 3 of training camp, Phoenix ran scrimmages with the roster divided up into two teams. The following game showcased the competitiveness from this group and what this team could become for this season. Head coach Jordan Ott was even surprised by how his players came out of the gate ready to go.
“It Went well. That was our plan to just install principles, our base on both sides of the ball on the first day. Second day, play a little bit and today we told them ahead of time that this was a scrimmage day. Split up into two teams, got after it. Really, really competitive even until the end.”
Guard Grayson Allen echoed his coach’s words by highlighting how competitive the two groups were in live play, breakdowns and stations at the beginning of practice. The high-motor play from the roster is a welcome sight compared to last year’s team that struggled in that department.
The Suns had one of the oldest rosters in the NBA last year, which hurt them athletically on the defensive side of the ball. For the 2025-2026 season, Phoenix has an average age of around 25 years old, putting them as one of the youngest team’s in the association.
The franchise is only three days into training camp, but the energy appears to be completely switched from last year. With only five days away from their first preseason game, the Suns will soon give fans a first look of this new competitive spirit in live-game reps.
