PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns looked for a statement victory before heading on the road once again, doing so against the Washington Wizards on Sunday night with a 112-93 win.

While the first quarter started a little shaky, the Suns quickly found their rhythm on both sides of the ball. Led by Royce O’Neal’s 3-point shooting — going 5-for-9 with 19 total points — Phoenix took control of the game all the rest of the way through.

Head coach Jordan Ott emphasized the need to put pressure on a young and speedy Wizards team, which worked out for Phoenix as it held Washington to 40% from the field and 23% from three.

Washington rookie Tre Johnson, who had a career-best 24 points in their last meeting, and Phoenix were able to somewhat keep him from being a huge contributor. He was the Wizards’ lead scorer, with 19 points, five rebounds and three assists.

It was a full team effort from the Suns before the road trip, with six different players scoring in double digits in Sunday’s victory.

Devin Booker had 17 points, Dillon Brooks had 16, and Grayson Allen had 12 points from off the bench.

Phoenix will now begin a six-game road trip, starting against the Miami Heat on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 5:30 p.m.
