Suns trounced, drop 127-109 to Raptors despite huge night from Beal, Booker
Dan Hamilton-Imagn Images

Devin Booker and Bradley Beal combined for 61 points but the Phoenix Suns were dominated by the Toronto Raptors in a wire-to-wire 127-109 loss.

Booker and Beal’s output was pretty much all Phoenix got. Kevin Durant had one of his worst games of the season, scoring just 15 points in 40 minutes, not making a single 3-point shot in five attempts. The Raptors shot 20-for-35 (57.1%) from deep compared to the Suns’ 7-for-28 (25%).

Toronto had four players score at least 20 points; Chris Boucher (23), RJ Barrett (23), Immanuel Quickley (23) and Scottie Barnes (20).

Whatever momentum Phoenix (27-30) got from their win over the Chicago Bulls was entirely extinguished against the Raptors. The Suns now have to turn around and play the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday.

Booker, Suns dig into Raptors lead in 3rd quarter

Going down by 19 points and pulling to within three at one point, Devin Booker’s 12 third quarter points pulled the Suns closer after halftime, 88-82.

It felt like whenever Phoenix was making a run, Toronto would respond immediately. Booker led Phoenix with 23 points and seven assists through the first three quarters. Bradley Beal followed closely with 22 points of his own on 9-of-12 shooting. Kevin Durant had a rough night thus far, scoring just 13 points on 0-of-5 shooting from deep.

The Raptors had a balanced attack to lead Phoenix in the game as five players scored at at least 10 points. Orlando Robinson scored eight points in the third quarter as Toronto contained nearly every run the Suns went on.

Beal, Boucher battle, Suns deficit grows in 2nd quarter

Bradley Beal erupted for 13 points (5-of-6 shooting) in the second quarter, but the Raptors, behind Chris Boucher’s 14-point, five-rebound quarter extended their lead over the Suns, 67-52.

Beal led Phoenix in scoring going into the halftime break with 18 points. Just four other Suns scored in the half, including Devin Booker with 11 points, three rebounds and three assists and Kevin Durant with 10 points. Nick Richards (8) and Bol Bol (5) were the only other players to make a basket.

Toronto had nine players score a bucket compared to Phoenix’s five. Immanuel Quickley and Boucher each had 14 points with RJ Barrett right behind them with 12. The Raptors shot 10-for-18 from beyond the arc in the first half. Phoenix made just two 3s.

Suns fall behind despite Booker’s hot start in 1st quarter

Devin Booker caught fire in Toronto early with 11 points (5-of-7 shooting) and three rebounds in the first quarter despite trailing the Raptors, 29-25.

Bradley Beal, in his second game since being re-inserted into the starting lineup, trailed Booker with five points on 2-of-3 shooting in his first eight minute stretch. Phoenix’s rookie Ryan Dunn got some early run after falling out of the rotation the last few games.

Gradey Dick matched Booker’s early start with nine points, making three of his four 3-point attempts. RJ Barrett also added eight points in the opening period.

Injury report

The Suns continue to move in the post-All-Star break with a clean bill of health. Monte Morris (low back soreness) popped up on the injury report ahead of the game. He and Cody Martin (sports hernia) were both out.

For Toronto, Brandon Ingram (left ankle sprain), Jakob Poeltl (right hip pointer) and Ulrich Chomche (right partial proximal MCL tear) were all out.
