PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns had no answer for Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokić in a 130-112 loss Saturday night.

The Suns were already on the back end of a back-to-back, returning home after a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday. Defensive breakdowns, a rarity for Phoenix this season, allowed Denver to get clean looks and let Jokić take control early.

Jokić was nearly perfect, finishing with 26 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists, leaving him one rebound shy of a triple-double. The Denver center went 7-7 from the field, 2-2 from beyond the arc and 10-11 at the free-throw line.

The latest losses are a cause for concern, especially with several key players still injured. The Suns also face one of the league’s toughest remaining schedules, and the strain appeared to show. A blowout at home, even against a star of Jokić’s caliber, may force Phoenix back to the drawing board.

Jokić’s performance dealt a blow to the Suns’ confidence, but the team still has time to make adjustments. While the Nuggets’ MVP made his mark, Phoenix had opportunities to limit his influence late and didn’t capitalize.

Saturday’s loss will sting, but it also serves as a warning. The Suns will need renewed discipline, urgency and sharper execution as they navigate the rest of the season.
