The Golden State Warriors are yet to make a big move in free agency, but there is talk of a possible trade.
Ahead of free agency, the Golden State Warriors were warned that the situation over Jonathan Kuminga could delay their plans this offseason.
To date, Kuminga’s situation is unresolved and the Warriors are yet to make a move, while losing Kevon Looney to the New Orleans Pelicans.
It is being strongly rumored that the Warriors will trade Kuminga away, and one interested team is the Sacramento Kings.
According to Jake Fischer, the Sacramento Kings are interested in making a trade to acquire Jonathan Kuminga.
He reports: “Sources say that Sacramento, meanwhile, would be interested in including Malik Monk in any outgoing trade package, but nothing substantial has materialized with the Warriors.”
The Warriors are currently assessing their options, and it remains to be seen whether they are interested in developing interest in Monk further.
Speaking about Malik Monk last season, Kings teammate Domantas Sabonis talked up how important he is to the team.
He said: “With Malik, it’s not even on the court. It’s everything he does off the court. He keeps us together. He brings this energy.
“He always has guys with a smile on their face and has that off-court vibe that every team is looking for a guy like that on the team. And he definitely brings that with this group where we have a couple of more quiet guys.”
Monk, 27, is a former first round pick for the Charlotte Hornets in 2017, and spent a short spell on the LA Lakers, before joining the Kings in 2022.
Another team interested in striking a deal with the Golden State Warriors for Jonathan Kuminga is the New Orleans Pelicans.
Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson reports: “New Orleans is trying to work the numbers in a sign and trade with the Warriors to get Kuminga paid. Kevon Looney signing with NOLA could help too as they’re former Warriors teammates.”
He adds that Trey Murphy, Herb Jones and future first round picks could be discussed between the two teams.
It is better for the Warriors to have interest in Kuminga than not, and they have to be careful to find the right trade package.
Golden State needs to add a center to replace Looney, and have been linked to veteran Al Horford, a player who coach Steve Kerr has long-held admiration for.
