Team USA Reveals LeBron James' Message on 2028 Olympics
© Rob Schumacher-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James was named the Men’s Basketball tournament MVP after Team USA’s fifth straight gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. James averaged 14.2 points, coupled with a team-high in assists and rebounds with 8.5 and 6.8 respectively.

Team USA was made up of a big three that included James, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry and Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant. The superstar trio led Team USA to an undefeated run in Paris, facing a record 61 NBA players, as opposed to the nine that the Dream Team played against in 1992 ( h/t Playmaker on X).

While this was almost certainly the final Olympics run for this big three, Curry had a response when asked by teammate Anthony Edwards if he would come back.

“Yeah, I’m gonna coach," Curry said (via Netflix's Court of Gold, h/t Team USA on Instagram). "Steve [Kerr] ain’t gonna coach, I’m the coach."

James weighed in with a message of his own, adding, "I'll coach... Guarantee we win gold. Guarantee."

While this exchange was likely somewhat of a joke, it's hard to imagine USA Basketball would turn down an opportunity to keep James and Curry in the program in some capacity. The basketball IQ of James is one of his greatest talents, so it wouldn’t be a shock to see him coach when his playing career is over.

The NBA's all-time leading scorer has won three Olympic gold medals with Team USA (2008, 2012 and 2024). James also won a bronze medal in 2004.
