Monday night was a great one for guys named Mitchell playing in the NBA Playoffs.
After Donovan Mitchell scored 39 in the second half for the Cavs to tie their series with the Pistons, Ajay Mitchell continued his postseason arrival with 28 of his own to help the Oklahoma City Thunder eliminate the Los Angeles Lakers.
The second-year pro won a ring in very limited action with OKC last season, but is taking a much more active role in this year’s run. With almost 23 more minutes-per-game, Mitchell is averaging 18.8 points, 4.9 assists and 4.0 rebounds-per-game (compared to 3.4/0.8/0.8 in 2025). He was particularly hot against the Lakers, dropping 22.5 points and dishing out 6.0 assists-per-contest.
Reigning-MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander – who scored 35 points of his own to close out the Thunder’s second sweep of the Playoffs – made sure to give the youngster his flowers.
“You could say he’s been our best player this series,” SGA said.
“With [Jalen Williams] out we relied on him so much on the ball. He’s just answered the call. Hats off to everything about Ajay.”
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Mitchell became one of just 30 active NBA players to score at least 28 points and nab four steals in the same Playoff game. How many of those players can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
