With the Los Angeles Lakers dealing with a myriad of injuries to top players such as Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, the latter will be heading into a key offseason as he’s in the final year of his contract and will likely get an extension. As Reaves’ injury with the Lakers deals with his oblique, there seems to be an expectation that he returns to the team in the offseason, though the small percentage chance he doesn’t will deal with a potential trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
According to ClutchPoints’ NBA insider Brett Siegel, he would say that he gives a 95 percent chance of Reaves returning to Los Angeles, and the other five percent would be the guard being a focal point of a potential trade for Antetokounmpo.
“For Austin Reaves, I think that his situation is pretty locked in stone there that he’s going to be returning to the Lakers on a big contract. 95 percent sure, the only 5% that I say that he won’t is because of something that we’re going to talk about in a little bit. And it goes back to Giannis Antetokounmpo,” Siegel said on Thursday’s edition of Clutch Scoops.
“And if the Lakers will get involved there, because obviously you’re going to need to figure out a way to come up with a package that’s going to bear other teams,” Siegel continued. “Austin Reaves, maybe there’s an enticing package there that he could be included to bring Giannis to LA, but I’m very, very confident in saying that Austin Reaves will be back with the Lakers on a mega contract next to Luka Doncic.”
It remains to be seen what happens with Reaves, as there’s no doubt that he is an integral player to the team aside from Doncic and LeBron James.
