Happy 77th birthday to three-time NBA All-Star, 1970-71 ABA Rookie of the Year, 1976 NBA champion and member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2018, Charlie Scott!
Scott made history in college basketball as the first African-American player at the University of North Carolina, where he played from 1967-70, averaging 22.1 points-per-game in his three seasons at Chapel Hill. He played his first three professional seasons in the ABA before the Phoenix Suns joined the NBA, and he’s still second all-time in points-per-game in Suns history behind Kevin Durant.
Scott played 10 professional seasons before retiring, scoring 14,873 points, dishing out 3,515 assists and hauling in 2,846 rebounds. He won his lone NBA title with the John Havlicek and Dave Cowens-led Celtics, contributing 14.5 points-per-game in the 1976 Finals against his former club.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Scott is also one of 30 players recognized on the ABA’s All-Time team. How many of those players can you name in seven minutes?
Good luck!
