The Action Network ranks three Indiana Pacers players among the NBA's top 100
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier in the offseason, Matt Moore of The Action Network ranked the top 100 players in the NBA both based on their regular season and playoff impact. It's a useful offseason exercise to determine where the perception of each player is and how new-look teams could fare.

Like other top 100 lists, the Indiana Pacers have three players ranked among the NBA's best. Bleacher Report had four, with second-year guard Bennedict Mathurin creeping into the ranking. CBS Sports had three Pacers players among the NBA's top 100.

The Action Network and CBS Sports had the same three Pacers players in their top 100 in Bruce Brown, Myles Turner, and Tyrese Haliburton. There are slight differences in where the players are ranked, but the key difference between the two lists is the playoff ranking. Moore added in a slot to rate a player's postseason effectiveness.

"Also listed is a Playoff ranking. I ranked every player based on impact on winning in postseason play. Those vary widely from the overall rankings. Role players who are vital in the playoffs are more important than heavy-usage, iso-centric players who struggle in the postseason," Moore explained. "If a player doesn't have a playoff history, their rank was heavily punished. You have to accomplish things in the postseason to get the credit, for the most part."

Brown is the lowest ranked player in The Action Network's list, coming in as the 98th ranked player. The wing/guard hybrid climbed significantly in these exercises from year-to-year after a tremendous season with the Denver Nuggets.

He averaged 11.5 points and 4.1 rebounds per game last season. His rise up player ranks comes from the growth of his other skills. He tossed a career high 3.4 assists per game and canned 35.8% of his threes on decent volume. Now, he's a useful attacker both on and off the ball.

He should pair well with Haliburton. Brown is ranked 44th on the list in terms of playoff contributions, and that makes a ton of sense after what he did in the postseason. He was vital during Denver's championship run on both ends of the court.

Myles Turner is next up on the list as the 56th ranked player. He ascended in these projects after a career year in 2022-23, where he had career-best numbers in both points (18.0) and rebounds (7.5) per game. He also shot well from deep and defended effectively.

As he improved, so did the Pacers. When Turner and Haliburton each played in a game, the blue and gold went 26-22 last season. That winning percentage would have put the team firmly in the playoff mix. Both guys got better, and that made Indiana a more capable team.

Speaking of the postseason, Turner is ranked 33rd on Moore's ranking when accounting for just the playoffs. The eight-year pro averaged 15.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game in his most recent series, but he struggled in some of the important battles when he was younger. He hasn't participated in the playoffs since 2020, so it's difficult to determine how effective he would be in the postseason at his current talent level.

Haliburton is the highest rated Pacer on the list at 17. After the All-Star season he just had, that makes a ton of sense. Few players in the league can pass, shoot, and score like Indiana's star.

He averaged 20.7 points, 10.4 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game all while having excellent efficiency (62.4% true shooting). He is a weapon from all over the court, and that's why he got a chance to play for Team USA this summer.

"Just the way that he plays and gets everybody involved is something that I enjoy," Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves said of Haliburton during Team USA play this summer.

Haliburton's playoff ranking comes in much lower at 53. That's lower than both Brown and Turner, which seems extreme when simply looking at a list. But Haliburton has never participated in a postseason game. It's impossible to gauge what his style will look like in the slowed-down, upped-importance games.

The entire list from The Action Network can be found here. Pacers players will have their chance to move up or down the rankings when the season begins in about a month.
