The 2026 NBA offseason hadn’t necessarily gone as expected for the Cleveland Cavaliers as they completely miss out on signing LeBron James and hadn’t made any significant moves despite coming off a deep playoff run.

That was until August 19, as the Cavaliers went on to make a trade that completely changed the outlook of their offseason.

Trade Grade: A+

As part of the trade the involved four teams, the Cavaliers ended up receiving Peyton Watson from the Denver Nuggets as well as Cam Whitmore from the Washington Wizards. This trade gives the Cavaliers two players that are young but also help them continue to be competitive right now.

Watson is coming off a breakout season in which he averaged 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. His length, athleticism and defensive versatility will make him the ideal fit next to Donovan Mitchell as he can the best perimeter option the opponent has while also running in transition.

With Whitmore he is only 22 years old and still has immense upside to be unlocked in the NBA. Whitmore is a powerful and explosive scorer who can help provide the Cavaliers with the scoring boost they need off the bench.

With the youth and outside that both Watson and Whitmore present, the Cavaliers absolutely nailed this trade and changed their outlook ahead of the 2026 season
