When Jalen Brunson got the NBA Finals rolling by splashing a three-pointer on the Knicks first possession and Victor Wembanyama answered with a smooth mid-range jumper, the stage seemed set for a classic battle between the two.
But Brunson left the game in the first quarter after Harrison Barnes was fouled into his knee and he appeared to pick up another knock when he rolled his ankle battling for a rebound in the second. He still played 30 minutes, but he had 19 points on just 8-of-21 shooting heading into the fourth quarter tied at 76.
He then showed why he was named the 2024-25 Clutch Player of the Year adding 11 more in the final frame to finish with 30 points, making timely buckets to help the Knicks take an eight-point lead with just over 6:00 left and hold it in the final 2:00.
After the game, Brunson gave a fairly predictable update on his bumps and bruises.
"I'll be alright," he said simply after the win.
