When the New York Knicks take the floor against the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night, they’ll be ending two droughts and eyeing the end to a third.
On a small scale, it will be the Knicks first game in nine days after sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals. On a much larger one, it will be their first NBA Finals game in 27 years.
The Knicks have been on a heater since losing two in a row to the Atlanta Hawks way back in the first round. Since then, they’ve won 11-consecutive contests – including sweeps over Philadelphia and Cleveland – by an average of 24.4 points-per-game.
The final drought Eastern Conference Finals MVP Jalen Brunson and Co. hope to end is a 53-year one, with the Knicks last title coming in 1972-73. Standing in their way is Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs, who defeated the Knicks in their most recent Finals appearance in 1999.
A major reason the Knicks are red-hot at the best time has been Jalen Brunson, who has averaged 26.9 points and 6.6 assists to 2.3 turnovers-per-game in the playoffs. He’ll also make history with his father (a 1999 New York Knick) when he hits the hardwood, as they’ll become the first father-son duo to appear in the Finals for the same franchise.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Brunson currently leads the NBA Playoffs with 9.7 field goals-per-game. How many of the players to average the most field goals-per-game in each NBA postseason since the NBA/ABA merger can you name in six minutes?
Good luck!
