James Harden doesn’t have the best reputation in Game 7’s, so the more cynical fan might not be surprised to see him finish with just 9 points on 2-of-10 shooting in 36 minutes of action.
They might be surprised to learn that it didn’t matter at all for the Cleveland Cavaliers, who blew out the Detroit Pistons 125-94 to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. Led by Donovan Mitchell’s 26 points, four non-Harden-Cavaliers scored more than 20 points in the 31-point rout.
Since coming to Cleveland, Mitchell is a perfect 3-0 in Game 7’s, averaging 29 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.7 assists-per-game in those contests. But he’d yet to advance to a Conference Finals in eight previous trips to the postseason before Sunday’s victory.
The Cavs have a quick turnaround, heading from Detroit to New York to take on a Knicks team that was scorching when they last took the floor on May 10.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Mitchell’s 109-combined points in Game 7’s ranks 47th in the NBA since the NBA/ABA merger in 1976-77. With that being said, how many of the players to score at least 100 combined Game-7-points since the merger can you name in seven minutes?
Good luck!
