Happy 38th birthday to the first-overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, Greg Oden!
Oden played a single season of college ball, dominating the Big 10 as a freshman at Ohio State. He averaged 15.7 points while leading the conference with 9.6 rebounds and 3.3 blocks-per-game to earn a second-team All-American distinction. He helped lead the Buckeyes to the 2007 national title game, where they lost to the back-to-back champion Florida Gators.
After his stellar freshman season in Columbus, Oden declared for the 2007 NBA Draft and was taken with the first pick by the Portland Trail Blazers. He missed his entire rookie season recovering from a knee procedure, which would become the defining characteristic of his professional career. He’d play 61 games in 2008 and 21 in 2009 and after just a four minute outing for the Blazers on Dec. 5, 2005, he wouldn’t see an NBA court again until January of 2014 with the Miami Heat.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. While Oden didn’t pan out, he was once regarded as the top professional prospect of his class. With that being said, can you name the players taken with the first-overall pick in every NBA Draft of the Lottery Era?
Good luck!
