Happy 50th birthday to 15-time All-Star, 12-time All-Defense selection, 2003-04 NBA MVP and NBA Champion, Kevin Garnett!
Garnett was selected fifth-overall in the 1995 NBA Draft straight out of high school by the Minnesota Timberwolves. After starting 43 games as a rookie, Garnett established himself as an NBA player by making his first All-Star team in 1996-97 at just 20 years old.
He’d go on to become one of the most fearsome players of his generation, being named an All-Defensive player in 12 seasons and All-NBA in nine, winning four rebounding titles and the Defensive Player of the Year en route to his championship with the Boston Celtics in 2007-08.
Garnett played 21 NBA seasons, averaging 17.8 points, 10.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks-per-game in his time between Minnesota, Boston and Brooklyn. The Greenville, South Carolina native retired after the 2015-16 season and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2020.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. How many of the players to lead the NBA in rebounds-per-game for each season since the NBA/ABA merger in 1976-77 can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
