The Brooklyn Nets are in the midst of their rebuild and come into the 2025-26 NBA season with low expectations .
The Nets were once again in the lottery last season and had five first round picks in the 2025 NBA Draft.
They also made a big trade to kick off NBA free agency as the Nets will continue to focus on player development and building the right foundation this season.
Here, NBA Analysis previews three of the most exciting players on Brooklyn’s roster before the season’s return in October.
As mentioned, the Nets made a big trade to begin their summer when they dealt Cameron Johnson to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Michael Porter Jr.
Porter Jr. came off a disappointing playoff run with the Nuggets, as he was unable to find his shooting rhythm.
This season will be a major adjustment for Porter Jr. He goes from being on a championship contender to a team that is once again projected to be in the bottom five of the East.
However, Porter Jr. should be able to shine offensively on a Nets team that lacked scoring and offense last season. He should be able to rebuild his confidence in a place where he won’t have to face the same pressure as he did in Denver.
Porter Jr. is 27-years-old and is just entering the prime of his career. With the Nets, he will be given a chance to create his own shots and could perhaps even be the leading scorer on the team.
Ever since the Nets drafted Nic Claxton in the 2019 NBA Draft, he has arguably been their most consistent player.
The 6-foot-11 big man has played six seasons with the Nets, spending most of his time as a starter. Last season, he appeared in 70 games and averaged 10.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks.
Claxton is a threat to secure a double-double almost every game he plays. He also provides great rim protection and he has been able to stay healthy over the past three seasons.
Claxton is a key member of this young core, who will now be tasked with being an important veteran presence on a team with many rookies.
One of the Nets’ draft picks at the 2025 NBA Draft was guard Egor Demin, whom the team selected No. 8 overall.
His selection at that spot caught a lot of skepticism as many people thought he wasn’t going to wind up as a top-10 pick.
However, it’s easy to see why the Nets are taking a chance on the 19-year-old.
Demin played three games for the Nets at Summer League, and he averaged 11.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 40.7 percent from the field and 43.5 percent from beyond the arc.
He has exceptional passing ability at his size and has the vision to make almost any type of pass. The biggest question about Demin is his shooting and offensive game. If he’s able to develop a consistent enough jump shot to stay on the floor, then he could end up being a sneaky contender for this year’s Rookie of the Year honours.
