Wilt Chamberlain is a celebrated figure in the NBA, primarily remembered for scoring 100 points in a single game, an incredible feat that remains unbroken to this day. While it was an undeniable milestone, "The Big Dipper" himself believed that this iconic moment overshadowed many of his other significant accomplishments throughout his career.
For the legendary big man, some of his records and stats were equally, if not more, impressive than that historic 100-point performance. Moreover, Wilt was also proud of how he dominated the game and led his teams.
"I get constant reminders from fans who equate that game and my career as one and the same," Chamberlain said of his 100-point outburst years later. "People don't talk about the 50-point average, the 69-13 Lakers championship team I played for. They talk about the night I scored 100."
"That's my tag, whether I like it or not."
Chamberlain was unsurprisingly hailed as arguably the greatest scorer in NBA history following his 100-point explosion against the New York Knicks in 1962. However, Wilt held a firm belief that scoring 100 points in a single outing was not impossible but rather a plausibly attainable goal.
In fact, "The Big Dipper" once argued that any exceptional scorer, if equipped with the right skills and determination, could match his long-standing record. Moreso, if luck favored him during the game.
"Yes, it can happen. I believe a great basketball player on a good night for him can score 100 points. I believe that sincerely. But the other records I have, it's going to be a hard time for them to ever get a look at," the Hall of Fame center once said.

Truth be told, it is completely understandable that hoops fans often find themselves captivated by Chamberlain's 100-point game. However, it is also essential to recognize that so much more to the NBA icon's legacy deserves deep appreciation.
To name a few, "Wilt the Stilt" was also a 13-time All-Star, seven-time scoring champion, four-time MVP, and two-time NBA champion. Chamberlain's contributions were also worth noting off the court as he played a vital role in molding the game and laying the foundation for the next generation of NBA stars.
As one of the pioneers of the sport, Wilt was instrumental to the growth and popularity of the NBA, elevating it to its status as the most prominent basketball league in the world. Above all, Chamberlain certainly raised the bar for future scorers.
