'They Want to Maintain Maximum Flexibility' – Golden State Warriors Rumored to Target 2 NBA Superstars in 2027

The Athletic’s Sam Amick reported that the Golden State Warriors are looking to have flexibility in their salary cap to potentially have room to acquire either one of the free agent stars.

“They want to maintain maximum flexibility for that 2027 summer (as it stands, they only have Moody’s $13.4 million and Hield’s $10 million player option on the books by then),” Amick wrote.

“The Warriors, who are well aware that Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo and Denver’s Nikola Jokic both have player options for the 2027-28 season, are hardly alone on this star-hunting front. High-profile teams like the Lakers and Clippers have sent similar signals in recent months.”

By that time, it’s unsure if All-Stars Stephen Curry , Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler will still be with the Warriors. But even if they would still be with the team, they’d all be close to 40 years old.

Kuminga is reportedly “miserable” with the Golden State Warriors

Before the Golden State Warriors can focus on acquiring a new star player, they still have to address the Kuminga situation. There hasn’t been any progress on both ends. The Warriors want him on a team-friendly deal. But the free agent forward isn’t settling for less money and looks to get his desired $30 million per year contract.

However, a recent update from ESPN’s Tim MacMahon explained that it isn’t about money for Kuminga. In the latest episode of “The Hoop Collective,” MacMahon said that it’s about how he was underutilized by head coach Steve Kerr, logging DNPs in more than one occasion.

“You’re making this about the money. He’s miserable. he is absolutely miserable,” the insider said. “It’s a bad situation. It’s a breakup that needs to happen sooner than later. It is a terrible situation for him. He was getting DNP-CDs in the playoffs.

MacMahon went on to say that the coach doesn’t believe in Kuminga, which led to the current state of the team.
