Free agency is one of the craziest times of the year. Rumors fly around about every team landing players like LeBron James, regardless of his contract situation. Some teams take the big swing, and some play it safe, but look to solidify certain roles on their rosters.
The San Antonio Spurs have two picks in the top fourteen in the upcoming NBA Draft. However, there are a few players that they could look to target that would bring some different elements to their team than they currently have.
The first player the Spurs should look at targeting is veteran center Kevon Looney from the Golden State Warriors. Looney has been a staple for the Warriors for three of their championships.
While Looney's five points and 5.7 rebounds per game career averages are not going to strike fear in any team, what he does have is an unmatched motor. He competes on the offensive and defensive glass at all times. He could be a solid option, depending on the Victor Wembanyama prognosis.
A second player that the Spurs should look at to provide some scoring off the bench is former Memphis Grizzlies guard Luke Kennard. Kennard had a very successful career with the Duke Blue Devils in college and has proven himself as an elite 3-point shooter in the NBA.
He is a career 43.8 percent shooter from behind the arc. The Spurs could absolutely use some scoring off of the bench if Stephon Castle or De'Aaron Fox need a breather.
The final player that the Spurs should take a flyer on this offseason is Torrey Craig.
Craig is another player who is not going to blow you away with his stats, but what he does give is 110 percent effort on the defensive end. The 34-year-old veteran does not get pushed around, and could provide a defensive anchor off of the bench,
Free agency always has some sort of big trade or free agent signing fireworks. We will see how the Spurs and new head coach Mitch Johnson decide to approach his first offseason at the helm
