Three Knicks Battling Injuries Ahead of 76ers Matchup

In the new year, the New York Knicks are playing sub-.500 basketball. The Knicks' woes extend beyond the results on the court, however, as three Knicks are now battling injuries and find themselves game-time decisions.

This doesn't include Mitchell Robinson, who is expected to return in February after missing the beginning of the year while recovering from offseason ankle surgery.

Robinson's replacement off the bench, Jericho Sims, is currently dealing with back spasms and is questionable for Wednesday's affair.

Sims was inactive for Monday's bout against the Pistons, and hadn't appeared in the two games prior after starting for the Knicks last Monday against the Orlando Magic.

The Knicks' other center, and star Karl-Anthony Towns is also questionable for Wednesday's matchup with what the Knicks are describing as a right thumb sprain.

Towns injured his thumb during Monday's game while getting his shot blocked by Isaiah Stewart. Towns remained in the game, playing 43 minutes, but was frequently grabbing at the thumb and grimacing.

The Knicks' other star, Jalen Brunson, is probable with shoulder soreness. Brunson's injury occurred in the Knicks' game against the Milwaukee Bucks. After a brief visit to the locker room, he too remained in the game and delivered 44 points.

The Knicks' lack of trustworthy depth has been a point of contention among fans and the media this season. With three rotation pieces and two starters (two starters who find themselves in the top 10 in minutes played) dealing with injuries, it might be time for head coach Tom Thibodeau to get some of the rookies some playing time.

Ariel Hukporti and Tyler Kolek have received rave reviews from fans and analysts alike for their play in limited minutes, as well as their stupendous contributions to the Knicks' G League affiliate Westchester Knicks.

Of course, the 76ers have their own injury troubles as well. In their game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday, they have five players listed as out (Andre Drummond, Kyle Lowry, KJ Martin, Joel Embiid, Jared McCain), two as questionable (Caleb Martin, Tyrese Maxey) and two as probable (Paul George, Justin Edwards).
