Thunder rookie guard Otega Oweh suffered an apparent serious leg injury during overtime of Oklahoma City’s preseason victory over the Pacers on Tuesday night, according to Justin Martinez of The Oklahoman.
Oweh, the 41st pick of this year’s draft, dropped to the court during a non-contact injury. He was unable to put any weight on his right foot as he was helped to the locker room.
“Any time you see somebody get hurt, whatever it may be, it’s never good. But with the kind of kid Otega is, regardless of what it is, he’s going to be OK,” Thunder guard Brooks Barnhizer said, per Martinez (Twitter link). “He’s such a lively person. Whenever he walks into the room, he puts a smile on everybody’s face. It’s been really cool. Me and him have a couple of mutual friends that we didn’t even know about before he got here. He got here, and we’ve really bonded in the couple of months since Summer League. He’s an amazing human being. So, whatever it may be, he’s going to be OK.”
Oweh played two seasons at Oklahoma before transferring to Kentucky, where he played his last two college seasons. He averaged 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists last season.
Oweh, who was acquired in a draft-night trade from Miami, signed a two-way contract in July. He played in the Summer League but only appeared in two games before he suffered a left ankle injury.
