Thunder first-round pick Thomas Sorber won’t see the court this season. The rookie big man out of Georgetown underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a torn ACL in his right knee, the team announced.
The injury, revealed earlier this month, will sideline Sorber for the entire 2025/26 campaign.
The Thunder expect him to make a full recovery and return in time for the 2026/27 season.
Sorber, 19, was the No. 15 overall pick in June. He averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.5 steals and 2.0 blocks in his lone college season before a separate foot injury cut things short.
Oklahoma City signed him to a standard rookie deal in July worth $22.5 million over four years, with the first two years guaranteed.
It’s the second straight season the Thunder have lost a first-rounder to an ACL injury. Last year’s No. 12 pick, Nikola Topic, also sat out his rookie year.
Even with Sorber sidelined, OKC has cover in the frontcourt. Isaiah Hartenstein, Jaylin Williams and a deep supporting cast are expected to carry the load while the team waits on Sorber’s eventual debut.
