Josh Giddey enjoyed quite the breakout season during the 2024-25 NBA campaign, particularly after the trade deadline.
Once the Chicago Bulls traded Zach LaVine at the deadline, Giddey was then able to take a larger role within the squad.
Giddey averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game in 70 appearances for Chicago, with those numbers receiving quite a bump in the latter half of the team's schedule.
The Australian guard also benefited from being traded by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the offseason, as he was able to play with the ball in his hands.
Giddey spent three seasons with the Thunder before being swapped for Alex Caruso last offseason -- which has proven to be a win-win trade.
The Bulls might have had a similar result this year compared to the last few -- though they did so with a younger squad, headlined by Giddey, leading the way.
Trading LaVine signaled a youth movement, and Giddey's emergence could certainly incentivize the Bulls to keep him around for the next era for the franchise.
However, the trade could prove to be quite expensive for the Bulls.
After a strong campaign, Mike Scotto reports that Giddey could be asking for a five-year, $150 million contract.
"The belief around the league is Bulls restricted free agent guard Josh Giddey hopes to command a similar five-year, $150 million deal to Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs and earn roughly $30 million annually or more," Scotto writes.
Giddey has quite the selling point after the Bulls saw his late-season performance, though he doesn't have the potential to drum up that much noise if Oklahoma City doesn't trade him last offseason.
The timing was perfect between the two sides, and Oklahoma City is now in pursuit of a title with Giddey looking at a potentially massive payday this offseason.
The Australian guard didn't quite fit alongside the Thunder, and parting ways has fared well for both sides.
