As the NBA offseason rolls on with free agency officially underway, many teams have begun to make moves to better their chances of winning a championship next season.
Of course, everyone in the NBA is looking to dethrone the Oklahoma City Thunder after their dominant season last year ended with them defeating the Indiana Pacers in seven games during the NBA Finals to win the title.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was a key reason for the Thunder’s success last season as he put together a historic campaign and he was rewarded on Tuesday with a massive contract extension.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Shai agreed to a four-year, $285 million super maximum contract extension on Tuesday that will keep him in Oklahoma City through the 2030-31 season.

Charania also reported that Shai’s salary is now the richest annual salary for a player in NBA history.
This is just another historic feat for the Thunder’s superstar guard and a well-deserved one after he put together a historic season that ended with a championship.
Last season, the 26-year-old star averaged 32.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 51.9% from the field and 37.5% from three.
Of course, Shai capped off the regular season by winning MVP over Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic.
Shai then went on to win Western Conference Finals and NBA Finals MVP as well as he became the first player to win all three awards in the same season.
With Shai now signed through 2030-31, the Thunder have locked up their franchise player for the foreseeable future.
Oklahoma City does still have some other moves to make this offseason as well as both Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams are eligible for contract extensions as well as the Thunder look to lock up their core and compete for more titles in years to come.
