The Minnesota Timberwolves are battling for a top seed in the competitive Western Conference, currently sitting sixth while locked in a three-way tie for fourth. However, they haven’t been at their best lately, going 3–2 over their last five games, an average stretch for a team with the talent of Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle, along with strong defense and explosive offensive potential. Much of that inconsistency has been tied to injuries.
One key concern was center Naz Reid, who had been listed as questionable after suffering a right shoulder contusion during the team’s March 15 matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
However, the Timberwolves PR team provided a positive update ahead of their game against the Phoenix Suns, announcing that Reid is available.

Even with a shoulder contusion, 26-year-old center Naz Reid continued to play, demonstrating his toughness and commitment to the team. He has dealt with injuries in the past as well, including a left scaphoid fracture (a broken wrist bone) suffered during a game against the Phoenix Suns on March 29, 2023. Across 67 games this season, he is averaging 13.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while shooting 46.9% from the field and 37.3% from three-point range.
Reid has solidified himself as one of the league’s top sixth men, bringing consistent production and energy off the bench. His scoring versatility and ability to stretch the floor make him a key offensive piece, while his confidence in creating his own shot adds another dimension to Minnesota’s attack. Beyond scoring, Reid uses his size effectively on the glass and has grown into an underrated playmaker.
He has also taken steps defensively, improving his ability to contest shots, hold his ground on drives, and switch onto smaller matchups, making him a well-rounded contributor on both ends.
A former LSU Tiger, he went from going undrafted to signing a two-way contract with the Timberwolves and then becoming the 2023–24 Sixth Man of the Year. Reid has developed into one of the league’s most reliable sixth-man centers, consistently providing the offensive production the team needs while also serving as a clutch three-point shooter capable of knocking down big shots.
With his production remaining steady over the past three seasons, he has fully embraced his role off the bench behind Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert. His growth and consistency have made him an essential part of Minnesota’s rotation.
That importance was reflected in June 2025, when he signed a five-year, $125 million contract extension that includes a player option for the 2029–30 season. The deal signals that the Timberwolves view him as a key piece of their long-term future.
