The Minnesota Timberwolves have continued to slide in the Western Conference standings, and as the final month of the season begins, the path toward earning a top seed has grown more difficult following the injury to Anthony Edwards, who is expected to miss the next week of action.

As a result, they will need more contributions on the offensive end to help replace Edwards usual scoring workload, and that includes Naz Reid, now in his seventh season with the organization.

The 26‑year‑old is a former Sixth Man of the Year and clearly has the ability to impact the game with his shooting, playmaking and defensive versatility.

Through 67 games this season, Reid has averaged 13.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting 46.9% from the field and 37.3% from 3‑point range.

As Minnesota prepared for Tuesday’s game against the Phoenix Suns, Reid’s availability remained uncertain. He appeared on the injury report Monday with a right shoulder contusion, but hours before tipoff the Timberwolves upgraded him to available, indicating he was healthy enough to suit up.

In his first eight minutes off the bench, Reid scored seven points on 2‑of‑3 shooting with two rebounds and two assists. However, disaster struck in the second quarter when he landed on Suns guard Jordan Goodwin’s foot, causing him to twist his right ankle.

Reid stayed on the floor in clear discomfort before limping back to the locker room with trainers. He did not return during the first half. Shortly after, Minnesota announced an update on X. "Naz Reid (Right Ankle Sprain) is QUESTIONABLE to return to tonight’s game," the team wrote. Fortunately, as the second half began, the Timberwolves provided another update, upgrading Reid's status to available.

This is significant because Reid is one of Minnesota’s most important depth pieces, and with Edwards already sidelined, the Timberwolves cannot afford to lose another key contributor. His scoring, spacing and energy are essential to keeping the offense afloat, especially during stretches when the team leans heavily on its bench.

The fact that he can return indicates that it should not be a serious setback, but it remains another unfortunate development that could force Minnesota to rely even more heavily on other pieces if the injury progresses.

The Timberwolves having fallen to the sixth seed, just one spot away from the play‑in tournament, making every game increasingly important down the stretch.
