Timberwolves Coach Issues Warriors Warning After NBA Endangers Rudy Gobert

The NBA playoffs have become increasingly physical over the past few seasons -- but Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch has said enough is enough.

After a 99-88 loss to the Golden State Warriors in Game 1 of a second-round series, Finch said the physicality in the postseason has "gone way too far."

He elaborated the next day at practice.

Asked about what the Warriors did to outrebound the Timberwolves, Finch took the opportunity to call out Golden State, the NBA's lenience this postseason and how the Wolves are not afraid to take matters into their own hands.

"On defensive rebounding, [the Warriors] do a lot of fouling, holding, shoving, pushing and tackling Rudy [Gobert]," Finch told reporters at practice. "That's clear. We sent a bunch of those clips in to the league. In fact, I'm not sure I know another player in the league with Rudy's pedigree that is allowed to be physically beaten on the way he is. And so we gotta address that one way or another."

How might the Timberwolves do that? They can push back.

"[Gobert] did push -- I mean, there was a play last night where [Brandin] Podziemski clearly grabs him and then he sheds Podziemski and then he gets the foul. So I mean we'll certainly try to take justice into our own hands whenever we can. I think that's the nature of physical sport. But by the same token, you know, my God, you should see some of these clips. They look like pulling guards and linemen out there, just taking shots at Rudy."

Podziemski came away from the game with a black eye, which appears to have come from an elbow as Gobert shed him in the post on the play above.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr also took issue with the officiating so far in this year's playoffs.

"I was upset the first 10 minutes of [Game 1]," Kerr told reporters, per CBS Sports. "It was just like Houston all over again. They were bear-hugging Steph [Curry], and they could have called six fouls. But the league has established the physicality in the playoffs."
