The Minnesota Timberwolves made history Sunday night, snapping an 18-game losing streak in Boston with a 102–92 win over the Boston Celtics — their first victory there since 2005.
Bones Hyland led the charge with 23 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer early in the fourth quarter that gave Minnesota the lead for good. Jaden McDaniels added 19 points, while Ayo Dosunmu filled the stat sheet with 17 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
The Timberwolves got key contributions inside as well, with Rudy Gobert pulling down 14 rebounds to go along with nine points.
Minnesota seized control late, using a decisive 16–0 run in the fourth quarter to break open a tight game. Naz Reid, back after missing two games with an ankle sprain, sparked the surge by scoring eight straight points during the stretch.
The Timberwolves had trailed 81–80 before Hyland’s clutch three with just over nine minutes remaining flipped the momentum. From there, Minnesota’s defense and timely scoring shut the door.
Boston was led by Jaylen Brown, who poured in 29 points, while Jayson Tatum finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds after a slow start. Derrick White added 15 in the loss.
Tatum, playing his eighth game since returning from Achilles surgery, was held scoreless in the first half as Boston squandered a 15-point lead and went into the break trailing 47–44. He responded with 13 points in the third quarter, helping the Celtics open the second half on an 11–0 run, but the late Minnesota surge proved too much.
Both teams struggled from beyond the arc early, with Boston missing eight of its first nine 3-point attempts and Minnesota starting just 1-for-7 from deep.
The Timberwolves were once again without All-Star guard Anthony Edwards, who missed his fourth straight game with knee inflammation, making the road win even more impressive.
Up next: Minnesota returns home to host the Houston Rockets on Wednesday, while Boston continues its homestand against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
