The Timberwolves may open the 2025-26 season with 14 players on standard NBA contracts, largely due to their proximity to the second tax apron, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.
Minnesota has explored adding a veteran guard, checking in on free agents Cameron Payne, Malcolm Brogdon and Landry Shamet. But Krawczynski reports that Bones Hyland is considered the frontrunner for the 14th spot.
Hyland finished last season on a two-way deal with the Wolves, appearing in four games. He was originally a first-round pick of team president Tim Connelly when Connelly was running the Nuggets’ front office.
Training camp invite Johnny Juzang is viewed as a long shot to make the roster, though Krawczynski points out that Luka Garza earned a spot last year under similar circumstances.
Younger players such as Jaylen Clark, Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon Jr. are expected to see increased roles this season.
