The Minnesota Timberwolves are getting an enormous boost with the latest news about Anthony Edwards.
Edwards has been medically cleared to return for Game 1 of their Western Conference Semifinal series against the San Antonio Spurs, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. Edwards plans to play in the series opener as long as he does not deal with any setbacks during pregame warmups.

This means Edwards is set to return just nine days after suffering what was thought to be a multi-week knee injury. Obviously, these are unusual circumstances, with Edwards desperate to return in the middle of the playoffs. Still, this is an unexpected development, since even the optimistic scenario suggested that Edwards was targeting a return later in the series.
Edwards, 24, has not played for the Timberwolves since suffering a gruesome knee injury in Game 4 of the first round against the Denver Nuggets ( see the video here). The Timberwolves overcame that injury, and several others, to eliminate the Nuggets in six games and advance to face the Spurs.
The Spurs will still be favored in the series, but Edwards’ return could certainly change the complexion of things. We will have to see whether he is operating at close to full strength.
