Timberwolves' Karl-Anthony Towns drops 60, including 32 points in a quarter

Karl-Anthony Towns broke a Minnesota Timberwolves record with the first 60-point performance in franchise history Monday to lead the team to a 149-139 win against the San Antonio Spurs.

More than half of those points came in the third quarter when Towns scored 32 points. Only three players in the last 25 years have managed to score more points in one quarter.

Karl-Anthony Towns scored 32 points in the 3rd quarter, the 4th-most points in a single quarter over the last 25 seasons.

Klay Thompson (37 in 3rd vs SAC), Kevin Love (34 in 1st vs POR) and Carmelo Anthony (33 in 3rd vs MIN) are the only players with more in that span.

Towns, 26, made seven of 11 three-point attempts and 15 of 16 free throws during his offensive onslaught, while also adding 17 rebounds. He's also the first center to score 60 points in a game since Shaquille O'Neal did so in 2000.

Minnesota needed the win as it tries to climb into one of the top six spots in the Western Conference to avoid the Play-In Tournament. For now, the Timberwolves are still seventh and improved to 40-30 with the victory.
