After pleading guilty to one felony count of threats of violence, Timberwolves guard Malik Beasley was sentenced by a Minnesota judge to serve 120 days in jail following the conclusion of the NBA season.
According to Steven Haney, Beasley's attorney, the felony charge could be reduced to a misdemeanor by the end of his probation, and he may not even have to be in jail. Beasley is expected to be part of a work-release program that may allow him to serve his sentence by home confinement instead. As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dropped Beasley's felony drug charges.
"We are very pleased with this outcome that will allow Malik to continue working on becoming a better person and making better choices," Haney said in a statement.
In September, Beasley was arrested at his house in Plymouth, Minn., when police were called due to an incident in which Beasley reportedly walked up to a car that was parked in front of his house, pointed a gun at the people inside and told them to leave his property.
"As the victims drove away, the suspect was observed holding the gun up to his shoulder, pointing it at their vehicle," the police statement said.
Officers were able to obtain a search warrant and found narcotics and firearms in Beasley's house, including at least one gun that was not his.
Despite his legal trouble, Beasley signed a four-year, $60 million deal with the Timberwolves in November and is averaging over 20 points per game this season.
