Timberwolves' Malik Beasley writes letter from jail, hopes people learn from his mistake

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Malik Beasley is currently in jail serving a 120-day sentence stemming from a gun incident in September 2020. He hopes his situation serves as a lesson to the public.

The 24-year-old began his sentence on June 1, and now he's speaking about what life behind bars has been like.

"I want people to learn from me, because it's going to be one helluva story," Beasley said in an Instagram post. "I'm not looking for sympathy or anything like that, just to understand I could easily fold and I won't."

Prosecutors said Beasley pulled a gun on a family and ordered them to leave after they unexpectedly pulled up in his driveway in September 2020. The family mistakenly believed his house was part of a "parade of homes" tour.

Beasley was hit with two charges — felony threats of violence and felony drug possession. He pleaded guilty to the threats of violence charge in December and can get his felony charge reduced to a misdemeanor after he completes three years of probation.

Beasley is expected to be ready for the 2021-22 NBA season. He had a solid season with the Timberwolves in 2020, averaging 19.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while shooting 44% from the field and 39.9% from deep.
