The Minnesota Timberwolves secured a 103-96 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 5 on Wednesday night at Crypto.com Arena, clinching the first-round series 4-1. The win propels Minnesota into the Western Conference semifinals for the second straight year

Rudy Gobert led the Timberwolves with a dominant performance, recording playoff career highs of 27 points and 24 rebounds. His presence in the paint was instrumental, especially against the Lakers' smaller lineup, as Minnesota outrebounded Los Angeles 54-37.

Anthony Edwards, who had been a standout throughout the series, had a quieter night with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Edwards was 5-of-19 from the field, including 0-for-11 from beyond the arc.

Despite his subdued scoring, Edwards still managed to contribute to the win, particularly in facilitating plays and maintaining defensive pressure.

Following the game, the Timberwolves' official social media account posted a message reading, "We were told in 5," accompanied by an edited image of Anthony Edwards wearing a jersey labeled "Wolves in 5."

The message served as a direct response to pre-series predictions favoring the Lakers to win in five games.

With this victory, Minnesota advances to the second round of the playoffs and will face the winner of the ongoing series between the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets, which currently stands at 3-2 in favor of Golden State.

As for the Lakers, who have now lost in the first round in back-to-back years, they will head into the off-season with multiple issues to address, including the need for a traditional center.
