The Minnesota Timberwolves have waived two-way center Jesse Edwards, the NBA’s official transactions log showed Monday.
The move had been expected since early August and became inevitable once Edwards signed a one-year deal with Melbourne United of Australia’s National Basketball League last week. Minnesota now has an open two-way roster spot, with Rocco Zikarsky and Enrique Freeman holding the other two.
Edwards, 25, joined the Timberwolves in July 2024 after going undrafted out of Syracuse and West Virginia. He made two brief appearances with the Wolves but spent most of his time in the G League with Iowa, where he averaged 11.9 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks across 34 games.
In late June, he accepted a two-way qualifying offer that included a partial guarantee of $85,300. That amount will not count against Minnesota’s salary cap.
Meanwhile, the Wolves still have a decision coming on guard Tristen Newton. The 24-year-old is expected to accept his qualifying offer and return on a two-way contract. Newton appeared in eight games last season, splitting time between Indiana and Minnesota.
