Timberwolves rumors: Anthony Edwards trade demand ‘fear’ in back of franchise’s mind

Just a few weeks ago, Anthony Edwards cited Victor Wembanyama as the future face of the NBA when asked to comment on himself being that, instead. The Minnesota Timberwolves then proceeded to be knocked out by the San Antonio Spurs in six games despite Wemby playing limited minutes in Game 3.

ANT can be forgiven to believe that the Timberwolves’ current roster has effectively hit its ceiling, but will that lead to him looking for an exit? According to Darren Wolfson, that fear exists in the franchise already, per HoopsHype.

“But it’s about satisfying Ant. The fear is, Judd, that at some point, does Ant through his representation, Bill Duffy and others, signal a desire to be elsewhere? We are nowhere near that point, but the fear is there. So Ant, I’m sure deep down knows that he can’t get to where he wants to get to with this roster.”

The Timberwolves were effectively outclassed despite making it 2-2 in four games. Anchored by Wemby, the Spurs found it straightforward to win the final two games, and Minnesota will undoubtedly have a better idea of what it will take to even get out of the conference in the coming years.

Edwards, despite his effectively faultless season, needs more offensive help around him, with the likes of Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert both suffering from off-nights in the postseason this time around. ANT, on the other hand, averaged 21.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in 10 postseason games despite suffering from a hyperextended left knee and a severe bone bruise in the first-round series against the Denver Nuggets.

Through the season, he went at a whopping 28.8 points, five rebounds and 3.7 assists per game at almost 49% from the field, career-highs in both points and efficiency. But while ANT looks on his path to becoming the best young offensive player in the league, Minnesota will undoubtedly need to give him the team to compete for titles, something that he has outlined as his aim multiple times already.
