Timberwolves star gives blunt description of team's struggles after loss to Pelicans

Anthony Edwards isn't here to sugarcoat it for anyone. The Minnesota Timberwolves – sitting atop the Western Conference and one of the NBA's most consistent teams – dropped their second game in a row and third in the last five on Wednesday with a 117-106 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.

After the game, budding NBA star Edwards offered the most blunt and candid response to address the team's recent struggles.

"We suck right now," Edwards told The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski.

He offered up a bit more but simply stated that the Timberwolves "know what [they] can be," as Krawczynski detailed. And to Edwards' point, he's not really wrong on either front, although it may be a bit overly harsh to say the 24-9 Timberwolves "suck."

After narrowly escaping in a home game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Dec. 30, picking up a 108-106 victory, the Timberwolves have now lost on the road to the New York Knicks and at home to the Pelicans. Edwards led the way in both losses with 35 points. He tacked on five assists and four rebounds in Wednesday's loss defeat, but turned the ball over six times, tying his highest single-game total for turnovers this season.

Things don't get easier from here, as the Timberwolves now flip to a four-game road trip that starts on Friday. Over the course of six days, Minnesota will face the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics. If the playoffs began today, all four teams would be in the postseason. Each of those teams currently sits above the .500 mark.
