Norchad Omier was headed back to the Cleveland Charge. Instead, he’s getting another NBA opportunity with a team that already knows him.
The Timberwolves intend to sign Omier to a two-way contract, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Minnesota will waive Enrique Freeman to create the opening, with Freeman dealing with an injury expected to sideline him for several weeks, Scotto added.
Omier spent training camp with the Wolves and appeared in six preseason games before being waived. So this amounts to a return for the 6-foot-7 forward, who gave Minnesota a look at what he can offer before roster cuts.
Mostly, that’s production around the basket. Omier averaged 18.3 points and 11.4 rebounds while shooting 59.2% across 38 G League games last season, splitting time between the Charge and San Diego Clippers. He made the league’s All-Rookie team and finished third in Rookie of the Year voting.
Omier, 25, went undrafted out of Baylor in 2025 and became the first Nicaragua-born player to appear in an NBA game. He played six games for the Clippers after signing a two-way deal in February.
L.A. didn’t tender him a qualifying offer, though he returned for Summer League and averaged 10.6 points and 9.8 rebounds in just over 20 minutes per game.
Now the Wolves are bringing him back, while Freeman’s injury costs him his roster spot. Rocco Zikarsky and Zyon Pullin occupy Minnesota’s other two-way slots.
