The Minnesota Timberwolves had some great success this week, and one of their young stars put himself in the team’s record books.

Minnesota lost Monday in a last-second, hard-fought matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies. Jaren Jackson Jr had 24 points, including 15 in the fourth quarter, and Desmond Bane added 22 points to beat the Timberwolves 108-106.

Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 32 points, while Naz Reid finished with 29 points, including 15 in the fourth as Minnesota tried to thwart the Memphis rally. Jaden McDaniels had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Edwards had a chance to win the game, but his 3-point attempt was off the mark.

The Wolves headed to Dallas Wednesday night to take on the short-handed Mavericks. Luka Doncic, Klay Thompson, and Dwight Powell were just a few players the Mavericks were missing, despite the inactive players, the Mavericks gave the Wolves all they could handle.

Kyrie Irving had 36 points, and 9 assists. P.J. Washington added 30 points and seven rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Wolves, losing 114-115. Dropping the Mavericks down to ninth place in the Western Conference standings.

Jaden McDaniels had another brilliant night against the Mavericks, leading the Wolves in scoring with 27 points, adding seven rebounds and four steals. Anthony Edwards had an off-shooting night (6-19) but he scored 21 points and dished out seven assists. Mike Conley had a strong game scoring 18 points, with seven assists, and hitting four out of six three-point attempts. Minnesota moved up to seventh place in the Western Conference standings (24-21) and has now beaten the Nuggets in four straight games to date.

Timberwolves Dominate Nuggets, Edwards Enters Record Books

The Wolves ended the week with a blowout win vs their rival Denver Nuggets on Saturday night 133-104. Anthony Edwards sets the Timberwolves career 3-point record, taking it from old teammate and friend Karl Anthony Towns. Edwards led everyone in scoring with 34 points and nine rebounds. Edwards is tied for second in the league for 3-pointers made and is in the top 15 in 3-point percentage.

Naz Reid continued his string of strong play, scoring 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. Rudy Gobert had another strong night, posting a double-double 14 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals.

McDaniels Ascending: Putting it All Together for the Timberwolves

Jaden McDaniels proving his worth with another solid night, scoring 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. McDaniels is showing more aggressiveness and more parts of his game. He’s been finding his rhythm in recent weeks, and his teammates believe there’s plenty more to come. McDaniels shooting numbers are down from last year but his rebounds are up, and two of his three 20-point games have come in January.

Naz Reid isn’t seeing anything new from Jaden McDaniels. He’s always recognized McDaniels’ offensive skillset.

“I’ve been saying this since last year, he’s been able to do this,” Reid said of McDaniels. “It’s just time and opportunity.”

“He’s imposing himself on the offense, whether it be in transition, some early attacks that have been real smart, going to the offensive glass, cutting, turning corners when he has opportunity,” Wolves coach Chris Finch said of McDaniels.

“Honestly, I think a lot of it is just (McDaniels) kind of course correcting here rather than just becoming one dimensional,” Finch said. “We tell him all the time, he’s a basketball player, not just a shooter. Use all parts of the game. This looks like how he played in the first couple years of his career. He was a lot more aggressive out of the corners, and in the last few years, he was probably more catch-and-shoot out of the corners. And now we see him driving and connecting with Rudy (Gobert), we see him now driving and kicking a little bit more as well, which we desperately need that”

Dillingham’s Time to Shine: Minutes Finally Increase for Duke Guard

Timberwolves fans have been asking for more Rob Dillingham , and over the past few games he has been a key contributor. They have needed a spark since Mike Conley has struggled for most of the year and lost Donte DiVincenzo to injury.

Dillingham has seen his minutes increase from 8.8 to 15.4 in January. He has done a great job setting up the offense, his lightning-quick moves and soft handles leave fans in awe, and oh yeah he can knock down the outside jumper when given the chance to. Injuries have kept him out of the rotation, but now that he’s healthy and willing to do what it takes to get the Wolves to the next level, we will be seeing a lot of Rob Dillingham, and that’s a very good thing for Timberwolves fans.
