The Heat and Celtics continue to dominate the Giannis Antetokounmpo rumor mill. But according to longtime Milwaukee-based writer Gery Woelfel, another team may be worth watching.
Woelfel wrote on X that an NBA coach recently described the Timberwolves as his “sleeper pick” in the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes.
Minnesota owns just the No. 28 overall pick in the draft, but Woelfel added that the Wolves appear willing to discuss anyone on the roster not named Anthony Edwards.
Before we get too carried away, it doesn’t mean a deal is close. It doesn’t even mean discussions have advanced beyond speculation.
But Minnesota has repeatedly been linked to star players over the years, and team president Tim Connelly isn’t exactly known for sitting on his hands.
ESPN recently reported that Connelly plans to be aggressive this offseason after Minnesota’s second-round playoff exit.
Basically, as the Antetokounmpo saga continues to unfold, the Heat and Celtics have generally been viewed as the favorites.
But according to Woelfel, at least one NBA coach believes the Timberwolves could be lurking in the background.
